Recycling

Curbside recycling is picked up on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.  Please have all recycling to the curb by 7 am.  Cardboard boxes, rubbermaid containers, and garbage cans are suggested.  It is not necessary to separate your items.  The following materials are/are not acceptable:

NO STYROFOAM OR GLASS!  PLEASE TAKE GLASS ITEMS TO THE DUMPSTER RECYCLE BINS AT 708 ESTELLE. THESE DUMPSTERS ARE PROVIDED BY THE TAMA COUNTY LANDFILL. 641-484-5061.


METAL:
  All metal container/cans are accepted.  Remove all food and rinse clean.  Labels do not need to be removed.  Clean aluminum foil, pie tins, beverage cans, and empty non-hazardous items are acceptable.
**NOT ACCEPTABLE:  batteries, syringes, knives, blades, needles, nails, and oil filters

MIXED PAPER:  Must be clean and dry.  All paper can be mixed.  Paper should be covered or held back on rainy days.  Paper CANNOT be picked up wet.  Newspaper, magazines, coupons, junk mail, newspaper inserts, envelopes, paper bages, labels from cans, paperback books, TV guides, colored paper, file folders, white ledgers, computer paper, etc., are acceptable.
**NOT ACCEPTABLE:  Waxed paper, carbons, photos, tissues, napkins, paper towels, plates, crayon drawings, smoking materials, pet food, fertilizer bags, disposable dapiers, or hard cover books

PLASTIC CONTAINERS:  #1-#7 are accepted.  Look for the recycling symbol and numbers on items.  Rinse clean and air dry.  Plastics not marked with a recycling number should be discarded.  Plastic caps and lids should be removed.  Labels can remain.  Do not place other objects inside the bottles and jugs.  Milk jugs, food, detergent, juice, beverage, and shampoo bottles are acceptable.
**NOT ACCEPTABLE:  Unmarked plastics, film plastics, plastic bags, auto lubricant containers, anti-freeze containers, soiled or unclean containers.

CARDBOARD:  Must be cleaned and flattened.  Don't leave any contents in the boxes (no Styrofoam, plastic liners, wood, newpaper, or any other packing materials).  Chipboard, cardboard cereal and cracker boxes with waxed paper liner removed, tissue boxes, paper mache egg cartons, and pop and beer cases are acceptable.
**NOT ACCEPTABLE:  waxy coated cardboard such as milk or juice cartons, butter containers, cardboard or chipboard which is contaminated by oil, food, or dirt.
